PHOTOGRAPHERS are invited to capture, explore and celebrate the diverse nature of the region by participating in the annual Wattle Range Photographic Competition and Exhibition.

Entries are now open for the acquisitive photographic exhibition and competition.

With over 200 entries last year, organisers are confident the 2018 event will be a success.

Wattle Range Council manager of libraries and cultural services Janice Nitschke encouraged all amateur and professional photographers to enter, adding the competition was “an opportunity not to be passed up”.

“The photographic art show is about promoting the diversity of the Wattle Range region,” she said.

“It also encourages people to grow their photography skills through mentoring with experienced photographers who are happy to share their skills.

“Many of these are members of the Wattle Range Photographic Group who meet monthly in the library.

“There is always a component of the meeting that focuses on issues, techniques and hints – some outstanding mentoring opportunities.”

Business and industry, black and white, sport and leisure, landscape, nature, panoramic and people and/or portrait with an emphasis on people at work or play make up seven categories sharing a prize pool of $2800.

The new Lake McIntyre category has a major prize of $250, while a ninth category for photographers under the age of 18 offers a first prize of $250.

Additional prizes will be awarded to placegetters along with the mayoral award for best local photographer deemed to be an amateur.

The overall winner of the competition will have their image featured on the cover of the Wattle Range Council’s 2018 Calendar.

“The calendar has become highly sought after and the competition provides the everyday photographer with the opportunity to participate in an exhibition and have their work published,” Ms Nitschke said.

“We endeavour to ensure that every entrant is included in the calendar through smaller photographs.

“This year some of the photographs will also appear on the new entrance banners for Millicent.”

Adult entry is $5 per exhibit and must be accompanied with a high quality digital copy on CD to be retained by the council.

Entries close on June 19 and photographs must be submitted unmounted to the Millicent Public Library.

Entry forms can be downloaded from the council website or collected from the library.
