READY TO GO: Craft exhibitors from all around the country have travelled to Mount Gambier for this weekend’s CraftAlive expo.

MOUNT Gambier Showgrounds will host Australia’s leading craft expo CraftAlive on its inaugural visit to the Limestone Coast this weekend.

Typically the kind of event you would only be able to see in metropolitan areas, event coordinator Sally Taylor said she was thrilled to bring the expo to our community.

“We have always known the region has a strong craft following,” she said.

“We were asked to come down and knew we could not pass on the opportunity.

“The response on our Facebook page has been phenomenal and tickets online have been selling fast.

“People will attend from all over the country and we hope this is just the first of many expos in Mount Gambier.”

Exhibitors are a range of Australia’s most talented craft experts, including experienced teachers and new designers all bringing their latest supplies, kits and tools.

The event will feature a range of crafts and products from traditional to modern, including stamping, card making, scrap booking, hand embroidery, needlework, patchwork, fabric dying, quilting and cake decorating.

This year’s featured artist is Amy Kallissa.

She aims to break down the “grandma” stereotype around craft and bridge the gap between the traditional foundations and modern design.

Workshops and classes will be held over the three days with new and exciting techniques on show.

Local Kaszazz paper craft expert Pam Kuhn said she was excited that CraftAlive was coming to Mount Gambier.

“I have been exhibiting at CraftAlive for a long time now and we are all like a big family,” she said.

“We have spoken about having an expo here, so to finally see it happening is amazing.

“I can not wait to show everyone here at home what I have been working on and what I do when I go away to these events.”

CraftAlive kicks off at the Mount Gambier Showgrounds from 9.30am today and continues until 4pm Sunday with tickets available at the gate.
