Taking to the stage for the second year in a row, the budding musicians make up the only whole primary school band in the major musical event.

Focusing solely on jazz music, North Primary School’s ensemble of Year 5 to 7 students are well prepared to step onto the stage and perform their three songs together.

Taking up the tenor saxophone this year, student Sian has excelled with the instrument, quickly moving up from class band to the more experienced jazz ensemble.

“I love music, it is really fun to play with the band and I have made lots of great new friends,” she said.

“I’m looking forward to taking part in Generations in Jazz, it will be my first time performing at the festival and I’m excited to experience being on a stage and hearing the other bands.”

Also preparing to experience the festival for the first time, student Jessica said they have been practicing hard over the year to perfect the songs.

“The songs we play in the ensemble are a lot more challenging than what we play in our class bands, but that is what makes it more fun,” she said.

“I have not listened to other big bands play, so that will be interesting to hear too – I might learn something new.”

The North Jazz Ensemble will perform on Saturday alongside hundreds of bands from across the country.
