ARTISTS have a chance to showcase their talent and win big during the Penola Coonawarra Arts Festival.

All emerging and established artists are encouraged to apply for the John Shaw Neilson Acquisitive Art Prize.

“For those considering entering for the first time, it really is a wonderful opportunity to be part of a dynamic festival while acknowledging Neilson’s place in Penola’s history,” Penola Coonawarra Arts Festival committee member Amelia Balnaves said.

Entries for the $10,000 art prize must be sent to Penola High School by 4pm, Friday May 11, with an entry fee of $25.

To be eligible for the local art prize entrants must reside permanently in the Limestone Coast.

The winner will receive $500, which has been donated by life member and supporter of the Penola Coonawarra Arts Festival Lois Hodge.

An invitation is also extended to the community to celebrate creativity and excellence and enter in the 2018 Design Prize.

The winner will receive $1000 donated by Penola and Districts Business Association and the winner’s design will become the official logo of the 2019 Penola Coonawarra Arts Festival.

The Penola Coonawarra Arts Festival will be held from May 17 to 20 and aims to embrace visual and performing arts, music, literature, food and wine.

Penola and Coonawarra communities combine their resources to facilitate a weekend that attracts national, state and regional performers and artists.
