Artist makes mark

NEW LIFE: Adelaide mural artist Mimby Jones Robinson is overwhelmed by the positive feedback she has received from the Millicent community regarding her bank building makeover in George Street.

A BEAUTIFUL water goddess has been turning heads in Millicent’s main thoroughfare this week.

The goddess is set to become the main feature on the outside walls of the 1930s-era former bank building in George Street, which is currently undergoing a dramatic makeover.

Adelaide artist Mimby Jones Robinson started working on the mural last Monday, following the support of the Imagine Millicent Arts Group (IMAG).

On day three of her two-week project Mimby is already overwhelmed by the positive feedback she has received from locals.

“I love the town,” she said.

“Everyone is so nice, sweet and friendly and there is such a strong community connection.”

Mimby boasts 20 years experience in painting and has been working as a mural artist for around the past six
years.

Her talent has seen her involved in events such as the “Fringe Street Explosion” in Adelaide.

The mural artist said her artwork is a reflection of her personality.

“I love surrounding myself with colour, there’s no line between my art and me – it is very reflective of who I am as a person,” she said.

“Growing up in a small, country town, I would have loved to have seen a brightly painted wall in the street.

“Creating what you want to see in the world is a beautiful thing.”

Mimby is honoured to be recognised as the “first person to do something like this in Millicent” and is excited to see the town come to life in upcoming years with street art.

“I really feed off the energy of the town,” she said.

“Everyone has been amazing and I would like to extend a huge thanks to the IMAG team who have been behind bringing the town to life, as well as Helen, Colin and Caroline who have been incredible.”

Ms Robinson works full-time as a visual artist specialising primarily in large scale colourful goddess wall murals and street art.

She adorns herself in rainbow attire and is never seen without sparkles on her face, glitter in her hair and a colourful flower headdress on her head.

A holder of a Bachelor of Visual Arts, she spent the past five years living in the United Kingdom, Victoria and South Australia creating mural work alongside the world’s most talented street artists.
