BIG EVENT: Ollie Hapuku and Tania Venables soaked up the sunshine and enjoyed the festivities in Naracoorte last Saturday for the Taste the Limestone Coast Festival.

FOOD, drink and entertainment were in the plenty in Naracoorte over the weekend as the South East town hosted the annual Taste the Limestone Coast Festival.

Organised by the Naracoorte Lions Club, the event has been declared as one of the best yet, with around 1500 locals and tourists through the gates.

Featuring an impressive 13 food and 18 beverage outlets – a record since Lions became involved – and performances by talented Naracoorte band 15 Days and Mount Gambier band The Southern Undertows, festival spokesperson Malcolm McEachern said it was a fantastic day for all.

“Attendance was up by more than 20pc with people from right across South Australia, interstate and even overseas,” he said.

“Everything about the day worked, the crowd were well behaved, the food and drinks were delicious and entertainment was amazing.

“There was some really interesting food this year, including Turkish street food, which was very popular.”

Receiving no funding and relying on the generosity of the community to run the festival each year, Mr McEachern said they always manage to put on a successful event.

“It was a real family friendly day with babies to 90-year-olds all enjoying themselves,” he said.

“This year we did a postcode check at the gate and there were heaps of people from Murray Bridge and Warrnambool and many from overseas.

“It is such a great event for the town to host.”

While the day was fun and entertaining, it was also a way to support local groups in the community with funds raised gifted to the Naracoorte and District Suicide Prevention Network and the Naracoorte Lucindale Community Care Network.

“We are still figuring out how much we raised, but we do know it is a substantial amount,” Mr McEachern said.

“The major raffle was a huge success and we sold all of the tickets.”
