Seaside celebration – Robe market exceeds expectations

CROWD FAVOURITE: Ben Hood and Tamara Seeley filled the grassed dancefloor when they performed a number of crowd favourites in Robe last Thursday.

DRINKS, sunset and top tunes made last Thursday night’s Robe Food and Wine Night Market a booming success.

Around 1600 people of all ages kicked back for a relaxing evening on the foreshore hosted by popular Coonawarra winery Koonara Wines with music by Ben Hood and Tamara Seeley, along with DJ Justin.

The free community event featured a number of stalls with locally produced wines, beer and cider plus a variety of food from Japanese dumplings to hot dogs.

Food vendors were under pressure with long lines and a few completely selling out.

Behind the bar, Koonara’s Dru Reschke was forced to make a pub run for more wine as the demand surpassed all expectations.

The winery operator thanked the many people who made the event a success.

“The atmosphere was amazing and Robe’s Guichen Bay provided the perfect backdrop,” Mr Reschke said.

“Also a big thanks to all the vendors who helped showcase just how good the produce and experiences can be coming out of the Limestone Coast.”

He also praised his wife Nicole for her efforts coordinating the event.

“With the help of the very supportive Robe District Council, she did a great job organising the event from scratch and everybody we spoke to seems to have had an amazing time,” he said.

Mr Reschke also thanked those who donated to the Robert Connor Dawes Foundation on the night, with the funds going directly to its work on children’s brain cancer research.

“It is a charity close to our hearts,” he said.

The music ensured the grassed dancefloor was kept full with people of all ages enjoying a collection of crowd favourite tracks.

An impromptu Michael Jackson-inspired performance from Melbourne performing arts student Liam Wilson was a highlight as the young dancer delighted guests when DJ Justin played the mega hit Bad.

Attendees came from across the region, including Millicent, Beachport, Robe, Port MacDonnell, Penola, Mount Gambier, Naracoorte and Kingston to attend the popular event which ran from 4pm to 9pm.
