WITH an eye-catching mural adding colour to Percy Street now complete, the community is being asked to have its say on a name for the woman emblazoning the revamped retail building.

Decor Originals’ Anne Fraser and the artists who created the work are encouraging the public to put forward their suggestions as part of a competition.

The bright mural on the corner of Percy and Mitchell streets was created by artists Sadiki Kamuldele and Jeremy Ievins.

Over a number of weeks, the artists have brightened up the wall with rainbow colours and an African woman as the subject.

Ms Fraser is running a competition to name the woman featured in the mural.

She said the feedback and response to the artwork had been overwhelming.

“It is so great to see these artists get the recognition and attention they deserve,” she said.

“The response has been amazing, people have really appreciated the work.”

Ms Fraser would like entrants to consider the woman’s African heritage for the competition.

“We want people to get creative and think of a great name for our woman on the wall,” she said.

“Think about where she may be from, what the name means or translates to – then come and tell us your ideas.

“Then Sadiki and I will go through the suggestions and pick a winner.”

The winner will receive a $100 Decor Originals voucher and $50 Metro Bakery and Cafe voucher.

“Once the name is selected we will have a small ceremony and announcement to officially welcome our woman to the wall,” Ms Fraser said.

Entrants have two weeks to submit their name suggestions and can do so in store, by phone or email.
