THE Headspace Mount Gambier centre will come to life this afternoon as part of World Mental Health Day today.

With live music, art, food and activities, Headspace staff and volunteers have created a unique and fun event to shine a light on mental health.

The event will run from 4.30pm to 7.30pm with all ages welcome to attend.

Headspace youth reference group volunteer Kyra Sykes will showcase a combination of her artworks in an exhibition titled Scribblings and Reflections of a Madman.

Kyra’s works reflect her own experiences with mental illness, with some pieces created during distressing periods of panic and darkness.

Visitors will be able to browse the art while listening to musician Stephen Esnouf perform a series of upbeat crowd favourites.

Each room of the centre will showcase different themes, activities and games.

Participants can explore the centre and take part in a range of free school holiday fun.

Plenty of complimentary food and refreshments will also be available.

Yesterday was national Headspace Day with businesses, organisations, sporting clubs and individuals encouraged to share their personal mental health tips.

The Border Watch staff listed exercise, drawing, talking to friends, painting and football as positive ways to revive a poor “headspace”.
