A NEW farm-themed mural by local artist Peter Dunn has been installed on a wall of the Millicent Visitor Informtion Centre.

Painted on timber, the mural depicts a child sitting on a fence alongside an older man overlooking a wind farm.

The Millicent-based artist said he completed the piece as part of the former Murals for Millicent initiative.

“In 2014, the then Millicent resident and artist Martin Sullivan felt inspired to get locals interested in the idea of having mural paintings around the town,” Mr Dunn said.

“After his initial efforts to drum up interest, Martin moved to Port Fairy in Victoria where he has gone on to pursue his talents as both an artist and musician.

“Although Murals for Millicent was not to continue in a formal sense, these early efforts have continued to bear fruit.”

Mr Dunn said the recent piece was produced around the time of his painting a large, wetlands-themed mural currently on display on the wall of the Foster’s Foodland supermarket complex.

“I went on to complete the mural for the Foster’s wall which had first been conceived as part of the Murals for Millicent project,” he said.

“I completed a farm themed mural painting with the hope that it too might one day find a home in Millicent.

“This mural has now gone from leaning against the wall in my studio to gracing the exterior wall of the information centre.

“It is the first image that visitors will see as they enter the Millicent National Trust Museum.”
