Zest for life shared through photography

CREATIVE: Residents throughout Mount Gambier are being encouraged to take part in the new digital photography project 60+ Moments.

MOUNT Gambier residents are invited to put their creativity to the test and celebrate modern ageing as part of a new digital photography project 60+ Moments.

Part of COTA SA’s ZestFest, an annual festival designed to celebrate, challenge and connect older South Australians, 60+ Moments asks participants to capture and submit a “selfie” depicting what gives their life zest.

All entries will form the centre piece in a community celebration later next month during the city’s ZestFest celebrations, which will see the images projected onto significant buildings in Mount Gambier.

This month a free half-day photography workshop will be hosted by photographer Sam Oster for the first 20 people who register.

The workshops will provide participants with practical and creative skills to confidently capture their world, using apps to enhance images and content, composition and storytelling through imagery.

Participants only need to take a mobile phone or tablet/iPad.

ZestFest event coordinator Jayne Boase said 60+ Moments would not only create new images but new expectations of our older years, boldly reframing the way we age.

“It will challenge perceptions of older people, their creative voice and capacity to contribute and provide an opportunity for individuals to express what’s personally important to them in a changing world,” she said.

“While people are encouraged to attend this fun workshop, we encourage any older person to submit images to be included.”

The 60+ Moments photography workshop will take place on September 20 from 10am to 1pm at the Main Corner, Kings Floor.
