Doctor condemns ‘barbaric’ wildlife deaths

A LOCAL doctor and former zoologist has denounced the “barbaric” killing of two kangaroos near his home on the outskirts of Mount Gambier at the weekend.

Dr Mike Bruorton was appalled to see two of the animals “deliberately run down” while out for a bike ride on Sunday.

This follows a recent push to cull the native animal with anecdotal evidence suggesting kangaroo numbers had surged in the Grant District Council area.

“My wife and I were out cycling on Sunday morning when we spotted the two kangaroos about 15m apart,” Dr Bruorton said.
