Ready for summer

THE Robe Bowling Club has wound up its winter season ready for a busy summer period.

The winter Saturday competition has seen Scroungers played and weather permitting, has been well attended.

Last Saturday’s event, sponsored by Ruffell’s Jewellers, was won by Dean Burgoyne with 40 points, ahead of Jim Gray on 33 and Pat Lynch with 28.

The winter competition overall was won by Burgoyne with 252 points, from Ann Moore with 138 and Ken Smith on 132.

Thursday’s competition was sponsored by the Robe Caledonian Inn with 25 players, competing in a triples event, with two two-game winners.

Winners on 54 points were Rob Lawrie, Judy Bermingham and David Robinson, from Baxter Kennett, Pam Robinson and Tracey Gray on 51.

Opening Day for the summer season will be September 19, with names to be in by 12.30pm for a 1pm start.

All members and new members are welcome, with uniforms to be worn by members.

The Robe Ladies Invitation tournament will be held on Tuesday, September 28 and the Robe Open BPL on Wednesday, September 29.

Caddy Shak will be in attendance both days for bowls gear.

The women’s pennant season starts Friday, October 8 and the Open pennant on Saturday, October 9, with home games for both.

Thursday, October 14 will see a twilight bowls and barbecue with Wheel to Walk attending to raise money for spinal research.

Several members will depart this season, relocating to be with family.

That includes Chris Davidson, Bernice Green and past president Stephen Phillips.
