Memorial stableford trophy decided

WITH a few women still away chasing the warmer climates, a good size field of 21 were happy to hit the fairways at the Blue Lake Golf Course recently.

The fourth and final round of the Marlene Lingham Memorial Stableford Trophy competition, sponsored by the Blue Lake Bar and Bistro, was played in what could be described as much better weather conditions than of late with only a couple of light showers.

There has been various winners in all the rounds so it makes for an interesting finish for the honours of stepping up onto the podium with the trophy in hand.

A three-way count-back was required in Division 1 to separate the winners as Geraldine Scott, Helen Myers and Ronda Edwards all signed for 31 points, with the former getting the nod having the better back nine score.

Scott had splits of 15/16 off a 25 handicap that included a four-pointer birdie on the par three second and added three points to her score, parring the par four 13th with a chip in “ferret”.

Helen Myers, off a 23 handicap, also had splits of 15/16 that included two three-pointers on the front nine.

Playing off a 19 handicap, Edwards had pars on the dog-leg eighth and the 12th, 14th and 18th.

The top score came from Division 2’s Karen Panagopolous, carding 36 points and off a 38 handicap, she made the most of her extra strokes with splits of 18/18 that included three, three-pointer pars on the front nine second, fifth and eighth holes.

The back nine produced two magnificent four pointers on the 11th and 14th.

A chip-in “ferret” on the 13th saved a triple bogey from undoing all the hard work.

Trudy Herbert was only two strokes off the pace, carding 34 points to take the runner-up voucher.

Off a 34 handicap, Herbert produced 17/17 that included four three-pointers on her card.

Nearest to the pin second shot on the par three 14th winners were Ronda Edwards (Div 1) and Bev Pascoe (Div 2)

Scott and Panagopolous received a ball each for their ferrets.
