Motorsport action aplenty

OFF-ROAD action will hit the Limestone Coast this weekend when the South Eastern Automobile Club hosts the second round of the SA Rally Championship at SEAC Park and the surrounding forest areas.

A good field of 23 teams are on the list for the PMD Race Products Forest Sprint, with some strong entries.

Top state teams of Zane Admiral and Matthew Heywood will need a bit of luck to help the WRX Subaru along the way to a podium position, along with Ron Hunt/Jeremy Browne and Darren Herring/Matthew Woods, both driving quick Evo 6’s.

Carwyn Harries/Tomas Pfitzner have been here before in the lightning quick Gemini and if they can tame the beast to suit the track, it could make the podium.

Any of the local teams are capable of the top spot, with Jamie Pohlner/Adam Branford (Evo 7), Dale Cagney’s Evo 6, Nick Cagney/Ken Moore (Subaru WRX), plus Paul Heenan/Andrew Kriesl (VR4) all pedalling four-wheel-drives and always fast.

Jason Sims/Bev Shute in the SR20 powered Datsun 180B will be on the pace in the two-wheel-drive category, along with Kevin Millard/Patrick Hughes in the fast 1600 Datsun.

Ryan Poel/Rebekah Cutting have been rallying in the big league in the Subaru Impreza RS and will look to do well.

Style driving is compulsory with the Triumph TR7 V8 Coupe in the hands of Craig Haysman/Julie Boorman and the Wilson Brothers, Phil and Damien punishing the big Toyota Soarer all the way.

Molly Spalding/Douglas Johnson will be quick in the Honda Integra and are generally quite competitive.

Action gets under way Saturday afternoon at SEAC Park with special stages to run into the evening.

Sunday the action continues with more special stages in SEAC Park, before the crews venture out into the forest stages.

Service is also conducted in SEAC Park, providing interesting viewing for fans, with catering provided both days.
