Entertaining end to season

THE Millicent squash autumn pennant season culminated in some hard-fought grand finals last week.

In Division 1 Over Served claimed the honours with a convincing 9-1 victory over Super Shots.

Shannon Smith and Ryan Wakelin contested an entertaining clash, as Wakelin took the first game 15-11 to set the scene.

Smith fought back to take a close second game 16-14, but Wakelin applied the pressure with the next game 15-12.

The fourth game was in the balance from start to finish, with some entertaining rallies.

Wakelin prevailed to claim the win 17-15 and the match.

In Division 2 Sweet Spots had a narrow win over the fancied Slammers, with an 8-7 victory.

The match of the night played out between Adam Sandow and Chris Hunt.

Sandow started in style with the first game 15-5.

The second game saw Hunt turn the tables with a strong 15-9 victory, then the third 15-7.

Sandow fought back to win the fourth game 15-7 and take the match to five games.

The fifth and final game provided a thrilling finish which could have gone either way, but in the end Hunt claimed the honours 19-17.

Liam Chant was awarded most consistent for the pennant season in Division 1, Riley Redway the most consistent junior and Peter Alison most consistent in Division 2.

The spring pennant is due to start after the school holidays in the second half of July on a date to be finalised.
