Golf or cards

KEEN TO GO: This group of Blue Lake women golfers were keen to tackle the conditions last week.

THERE are those who will play golf in any weather and those who prefer to stay dry in the clubhouse and play cards, which was the case at the Blue Lake Golf Club last week.

As it was the winter solstice week it was inevitable the rain would make an appearance at the start of the 18-hole stableford competition.

Those who opted to play were rewarded with patchy blue sky after playing five holes.

The results were indicative of the heavy underfoot conditions, with most returning scores which included too many bogeys, double-bogeys and wipes, with 27 points the best score of the day.

Lynda Nannings was the winner in Division 1, carding 11/15 and was enough to get her over the line ahead of handicapper Dianne Perryman with 11/13, which did include one par.

In Division 2 Beryl Mahoney’s score of the day of 27 points from splits of 12/15 was the only other one to have a par on her card and was well clear of runner-up Vivienne Wilson’s 23 points, with splits of 8/15.

Nearest to pin second shot winners on the second hole were Division 1’s Rosemary Martland and Beryl Mahoney in Division 2.

The pro-shot winner on the par 3 downhill fifth hole was Karen Panagopolous who has perfected this feat as a regular winner.

The novelty prize for best front nine of 12 points on a count-back was vice-captain Geraldine Scott.
