Father and daughter combine

THE father and daughter pairing of Tony and Nicola Bowditch claimed the Mount Gambier District Indoor Bowls Association Faith Jewellers/David and Jane Peacock Mixed Pairs Championship with a strong grand final performance.

The Wandilo bowlers, with Tony as skipper and Nicola lead, met the in-form Commercial Club combination of skip Rod Fleming and lead Mary Lockwood in the first semi-final and claimed an 8-1 victory.

In the second semi-final the Post-Tel and Wandilo combination of skip Fiona Pearson and lead Simon Attiwill defeated the Kongorong pair of Heather Glynn and Andy Cornolo 5-4.

Pearson and Bowditch met in the final, with the former out to an early lead with two shots on the first end.

However, the Bowditch team then scored a four and a two in successive ends for the lead, which required the Pearson pair to score six to win on the last end.

But they only could make two, with Tony and Nicola claiming victory and the 2021 title 10-7.

The consolation semi-finals were contested between Yahl’s Ken Stephens and Lyn Evans, who defeated Moorak’s Gary Walters and Nola Spencer 5-3.

The second semi-final saw the Commercial Club husband and wife team of John and Doreen Oakley defeat Glenburnie’s Simon Davis and Fiona Rochow 8-4.

The Oakley’s prevailed to beat Yahl pair in the consolation final 11-2.
