Winter blues take toll

WHILE the warmer climate up north has tempted a few of the Mount Gambier Golf Club’s members to travel, 21 women still enjoyed the popular Gentsomes competition at Attamurra last week.

Teams of three tackled the cold and calm conditions with enthusiasm, with the win going to Lyn Hudson, Vicki Clark and Jan Shanahan with a respectable score of 84 points.

Runners-up were Janina Morrison, Kathy Ewer and Faye Mainwaring with 82 points.

In the ball rundown, the team of Jennette Braun, Mary Kentish and Pauline Paterson won a ball each on a count-back with 76 points.

The pro shot for the day on the eighth hole went to the accurate Faye Mainwaring, while the second shot on the 10th hole in A, B and C grades was won by Carol Davis, Lyn Hudson and Pauline Paterson respectively.

Saturday saw perfect conditions for the 14 women who played in a par competition.

Marie Douglas found the first nine challenging, including four wipes, but rallied on the back nine to finish with two pars to claim the winner’s prize with 1-down.

Di O’Donnell was runner-up with consistent nines of 1-down each side to finish one stroke behind Douglas.

O’Donnell also claimed the pro shot on the eighth hole.

Ball rundown winners were Lyndal McInerney, Vicki Clark, Bev Pedlar, Leanne Hunt, Heather Chapman and Penne Saffin.
