Consistent Corner wins the day

A CONSISTENT effort across the day gave Robert Corner the Mount Gambier RSL Bolwing Club’s 100-up singles title.

The format saw bowlers drawn and play a four-bowl singles game, with points awarded for the closest four bowls to the jack.

Rain made conditions uneasy, as the bowlers had to take refuge on many occasions, but some quality bowling and close encounters played out.

Five games were played in the first round, with Lindsay Moyle defeating Tony Freeman, Ian MacIntosh defeating Dave Beaman, Les James defeating Ron Ploenges, Gary Bowering defeating Lawrie Franklyn and Brenton Wittwer defeating Geoff James.

The quarter finals saw MacIntosh defeat Moyle in a game requiring a deciding end due to both reaching 100 at the same time.

Les James defeated Phillip Wilson, Corner defeated Chris Fenwick and Wittwer defeated Bowering.

The semi finals saw MacIntosh win against Les James and Corner overcoming Wittwer to set up a what turned out to be a high-class final.

Corner continued his consistent bowling from throughout the day and finally overcame the gallant MacIntosh to take out the competition.
