Strong win for RSL

A TEAM from the Mount Gambier RSL Bowls Club have claimed a comfortable 10-shot victory in the Lower South East Bowls Ladies Championship Fours.

Skipper Fiona Pearson, Kym Franklin, Jane Crowder and Sandi Elliott claimed the win for the RSL against opposition from Beachport, Port MacDonnell, Naracoorte, Millicent, Lucindale, Robe, Kingston and Penola.

In changeable weather conditions, competitors put on a high qaulity exhibition of bowling with some close encounters, plus a few twists and turns.

The format was the best of 12 ends up until the final where the best of 15 ends was played.

The first game of the day saw Millicent overcome Robe with the scores locked after 12 ends, an extra end was required which Millicent won to go into the quarter finals.

The quarter finals saw Mount Gambier RSL overcome Kingston and Millicent overcome Lucindale to set up a semi-final clash.

The other quarter finals saw Port MacDonnell beat Naracoorte and Penola defeat Beachport to both progress to the semi-final.

The semi-finals saw Mount Gambier RSL beat Millicent and Port MacDonnell overcame Penola to set up an intriguing final.

Both Mount Gambier RSL and Port MacDonnell had also battled for the women’s Division 1 pennant earlier in the year where RSL had come away with the prize.

Midway through the game the RSL was able to put pressure on the Bay side and gained a significant advantage, scoring seven shots on one end, which all-but put paid to the Port MacDonnell challenge.

The RSL ran out 20 shots to 10 shots victors, which added to a successful womoen’s year of bowling for the club.
