Impressive performance from Limestone Coast athletes

MOUNT Gambier little athletes returned from the State Individual Championships in Adelaide with a swag of medals.

The Mount Gambier District Little Athletics Centre took a team of 19 athletes to Adelaide to compete, along with coach Sally Taylor.

The group claimed 10 medals – five gold, one silver and four bronze – along with many personnel best performances.

Stand out performances came from Hamish Gordon who won two gold medals in discus and shot put and a bronze in the 1100m race walk.

Gordon also achieved a State Best Performance for the U11 boys in the discus with a throw of 35.40m.

Ben Ellis won one gold medal in the U9 boy’s high jump and a bronze in the 800m race.

Harry Ellis has been selected in the State Little Athletics Team for the 1500m and 800m.

Saskia Brogan, a new athlete this season, competed in U10 girls and in her five events achieved all PB’s.

Six athletes competed in the race walk events for five medals.

Emily Lynch continued her great form winning the U14 Girls 1500m race walk with a PB, U12 Boys had two athletes competing in the 1500m race walk, with Les Jagger winning gold and Jacob Gordon winning bronze, both with PB’s.

Brother and sister duo Hamish and Annabelle Gordon won bronze and silver in the 1100m race walk with new PB’s.

The club will hold its wind-up and medal presentation on Sunday April 11 at the Mount Gambier High School starting at 1pm.

MGDLAC will also run a cross country season, with the first event on the morning April 11 at Marist Park, starting at 10am.
