Stunning conditions on the water

MOTHER Nature turned it on for the final races of the Austral Championships at the Port MacDonnell Sailing Club, with plenty of action across Saturday’s two races.

The final results of the championships will be announced later in the year, but crews and skippers were keen to add their names to the honours.

In the opening race only seconds separated the boats at the finish, with a close result.

Freycinet claimed class results, from Papillon and Sandrine, while on club handicap Papillon claimed the top honour, ahead of Freycinet and Windy Fred.

The second race again saw some tight racing, with tactical moves around the marker buoys to gain position.

In the end class honours again went to Freycinet, this time with Windy Fred second and Papillon third.

Windy Fred claimed club handicap honours, from Freycinet and Papillon.

Newcomers were welcomed on Saturday and this week those interested in finding out more about the sport are encouraged to head along to take a look and possibly find a space onboard as a crew member.
