Gregory extends lead

ONE of the largest field of ladies for some time graced the fairways of the Mount Gambier Golf Club last week, with 42 players contesting a stableford competition for the second round of the Summer Salver.

In front after the first round, Helen Gregory cemented her lead in the quest for the honours when she fired an 82 off the stick for 40 points to win the second round.

Her score included 10 pars, with the only blemish a double bogey on the fifth hole for a 41/41 split. Back from a short absence was Lyn Hudson who also played under her handicap to finish runner-up with 38 points, returning to the clubhouse following a strong back nine with 22 points.

The consistent Carol Davis was third with a solid score of 36 points which included six pars and one wipe on the sixth hole.

Bev Pedlar headed the list of the 11 ball rundown winners who needed 32 points or better to claim a ball.

The special prizes this week were the accuracy drives on fairways and in A Grade, Bernie Jennings was the winner, with a tie in B Grade between Marie Douglas and Betty McKechnie.

Libby Furner was the winner in C Grade where her drives were recorded on every applicable fairway.

The pro shot on the eighth hole was won by Denise Harvey.

Meanwhile, perfect conditions for golf enabled some excellent scoring when 26 ladies played a stableford round on Saturday.

Donna Jennings who continually improves her game finished with 41 points, which included a birdie on the third hole to take out the winner’s prize, with Kerry Pedlar, four shots behind with 37 to finish runner-up.

There were eight ball rundown winners who needed 32 points or better to claim a ball.

Helen McIntyre was the most accurate on the eighth hole, while Jennings was nearest the pin on the 16th.
