Region’s first Blue Tree grows mental health awareness

COLOURFUL REMINDER: Naracoorte High School and Lucindale Area School students helped paint the Limestone Coast's first Blue Tree.

A COLOURFUL reminder about the importance of mental health conversations has emerged in the Lucindale district.

The Naracoorte and District Suicide Prevention Network led a community painting day at Four Mile Picnic Area last month, with Naracoorte High School and Lucindale Area School students helping to paint the Limestone Coast’s first Blue Tree.

The national Blue Tree Project aims to help spark difficult conversations and encourage people to speak up when battling mental health concerns.

While a dose of wintry weather made painting the tree a challenge, students also heard from StandyBy Support After Suicide coordinator Tracey Wanganeen, as well as receive packs from BeyondBlue.

The group will return to finish the painting at a later date.

There are 28 Blue Trees in South Australia and around 600 across the nation.
