MOUNT Gambier North Primary School principal Paul Harmer is taking a hands-on approach to advocate reading programs within its curriculum, visiting classrooms to personally read to students.
Inspired by a recent development seminar, Mr Harmer has prioritised reading to classrooms in the hope students develop a love of reading that extends into adulthood.
“Recently, I attended Anne Bayetto’s professional development session, focusing on the importance of a story reading program,” Mr Harmer said.
“This is why I am taking the time to personally go around to classrooms and read to our students,” he said.
The seminar highlighted the importance of reading to students and suggested a series of research based reading activities to help motivate children to read – as well as improve their reading skills.
