THE SELF-CHARGING engine stored under the bonnet of the all-new Subaru Forester e-Boxer is what makes it a step above the ordinary modern vehicle.
The recently-introduced hybrid offers power for efficiency, with its completely transformed 2.0e- L motor designed to make every drive effortlessly productive.
Through its automatic selection setting, the innovative vehicle allows any driver to use the most effective engine mode, allowing great low-end performance and lower fuel consumption.
Fuel usage has dropped from the standard Forester’s 8.1L/100km to 6.7L/100km in the two hybrid variants including the entry level Forester Hybrid L and top specification S model.
Both electrified hybrids replace the petrol version’s 2.5-litre engine with a 110kW/196Nm 2.0-litre unit that is paired to an 12.3kW/66Nm electric motor inside the transmission.
Recently hitting the Australian market, the Subaru newcomer has already become a popular option for drivers with large quantities of the model reportedly driving out to their new owners.
The former Forester’s spare wheel has been dropped to make way for a lithium-ion battery cell underneath the boot floor, although a repair kit is still included.
With a lower centre of gravity and better-balanced front to rear vehicle weight distribution than the petrol Forester model, the new e–boxer delivers more responsive handling, with no sacrifice to safety.
The fifth-generation Forester offers comprehensive X Mode all-terrain drive mode with Subaru’s EyeSight dual-camera active safety system delivering autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, precollision braking and lane-keep assist.
The symmetrical all-wheel drive system is boosted with 220mm of ground clearance so any driver can cruise through their dream urban and rural adventures.
Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert are also featured, along with dusk-sensing adaptive LED headlights, tyre pressure monitoring, reversing camera, reverse automatic braking and front and side view cameras.
An 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring, DAB+ digital radio reception and Bluetooth is hooked up to a nine-speaker Harman-Kardon premium sound system.
Two quick-charge USB ports in the centre console keep rear passengers powered up and entertained – helping to keep the peace on those long trips.
The backseat also includes two directional rear air conditioning vents.
