SHELBY the Shell V-Power Race Team show car turned heads while in Mount Gambier recently for Triple S Distributors VIP open day.

The car is a replica of the Dick Johnson and Roger Penske team vehicles made to complement team sponsor opportunities.

Developed three years ago, Viva Energy Australia sales team leader Paul Fisher said the vehicle was a stockstandard XR Ford Falcon.

“Dick Johnson and Roger Penske effectively put the car together for us, bought the car and wrapped it,” Mr Fisher said.

“They bought it from a Ford dealership in Queensland.

“It has been made to look like a V8 super car and is a great mock up of a race car.

With Triple S Distributors recently announcing it is an authorised shell distributor, the car was on show at its VIP open day last week to attract people and offer a photo opportunity for customers.

Triple S sales manager Darral Vivian said the car was eye-catching.”

It catches the attention and it does look like a racing super car,” he said.

“It has definitely been a good year for both teams.

“Everything goes pretty well together at the moment.”

Mr Fisher said Shell had been a sponsor of Mr Johnson for the past 50 years during his V8 Supercar racing career.

“The car has been more recently updated to reflect the Scott McLaughlin’s 2018 championship,” Mr Fisher said.

“It is not designed to go fast and we are very strict on our road rules when we are driving it.

“We abide by the road conditions and rules and it is not a matter of getting in it and being a race car driver.”

Mr Fisher said he was extremely proud of the racing team and what it had accomplished.

“I follow the Shell V-Power Racing Team myself and they are absolutely terrific young men,” he said.

“They know how to drive cars, Scotty is doing exceptionally well this year.

“17 wins this year and funnily enough he is number 17 which puts him into the most wins out of any driver in any season.”

Mr Fisher said Shelby complemented another show car Sally the Mustang – representing this year’s championship vehicle – which would make its way to Mount Gambier eventually.
