CRUISING down the South East streets in old school style, Bobby White feels at home behind the wheel of his Heron White 1968 HK Holden.

Boasting an American 350 Chevy stage three crate engine, nine-inch rear end and an automatic transmission two-speed inch power glide, this vehicle has power and style.

Mr White purchased the vehicle in 2016 after finding it listed online.

“When I saw it was advertised in Adelaide I went up to have a look and purchased it straight away,” he said.

“I saw it and thought immediately that I needed and wanted it.

“I drove it home and have been working on it ever since.”

Mr White said it had taken the full three years to get it to the standard he wanted.

“It is nearly 100pc now, although I have a little bit more I want to do to it,” he said.

“Later down the track I will probably alter a few motor modifications.

“It will only be to get it to go a bit quicker, but there always seems to be something you want to change once you are finished.”

Mr White has a list of attributes he admires about the car.

“I love how it sounds and it is really nice to cruise in,” he said.

“They are just old school and have style.

“All the new stuff now days from Ford to Holden, they all just look the same.”

Whenever Mr White finds time, he said he organised a leisurely cruise either with friends or by himself.

“It is all just a bit of fun,” he said.

“Whenever a friend has a wedding or a deb ball I will try and help them out.

“I really enjoy going on leisurely car trips and the marbled red vinyl seated interior makes it even more enjoyable.”

Mr White said vehicles from mid 60’s to 70’s are “just good cars.”

“Even though I am a HQ man because I used to have a Monaro when I was younger I like the HK,” he said.

“I had my Monaro when I was one of the first 20 members of the South East Street Machines back in the 80’s.

“I rejoined the club almost two years ago.”

Mr White has entered the vehicle into a few shows to show off “hard work.”

“I like to be involved in car runs when you just get a heap of cars together and give your respectful donations.

“”I would not mind going up to Adelaide for the HK – TG Nationals later on this year.”
