State Government to connect auto supply chain workers to jobs

THE State Government will roll out new services and support to connect automotive supply chain workers to jobs with a new $1.2 million initiative.

The initiative will provide a one-point contact through the Drive Your Future Jobs Connection Service to directly link up to 500 automotive workers to job opportunities.

In addition, up to 120 auto supply chain workers will be able to gain valuable work experience and formal accreditation on job sites across Adelaide.

The Drive Your Future Jobs Connection Service will work with South Australian employers to source job opportunities for workers and match people to jobs based on their skills and experience.

Premier Jay Weatherill said with Holden’s closure just under two months away, the State Government was “doubling down” on support for automotive workers.

“Automotive workers have a range of trade, technical and personal skills and experience and there are many employers interested in the skills these workers have, and we want to make this connection easy for them,” Mr Weatherill said.

“This $1.2 million initiative will complement our existing support for workers and will link with our SA Jobs Today website, which was launched as part of our $200m Future Jobs Fund.”

Automotive Transformation Minister Kyam Maher said the government was committed to supporting auto supply chain workers and their families.

“Communication, team work, reliability, attention to detail, problem solving and producing high work standards under pressure are just some of the common transferable skills auto workers can bring to a business,” he said.

“I encourage employers to contact the Drive Your Future info line to be connected to ex-automotive workers.

“Employers may not realise that most auto workers are experts in lean manufacturing which can add significant value to other industries.”

Workers will be able to connect with regional job opportunities through offices in Whyalla, Mount Barker and Mount Gambier.

Automotive workers looking for new employment can access support by visiting driveyourfuture.sa.gov.au or calling 1800 774 010.
