For Mount Gambier local Narelle Pignotti, studying at Adelaide University’s Mount Gambier Campus will open the door to a new career path – one that fits into her busy lifestyle.

Currently studying a teaching degree at the University of South Australia, she will transition into the Adelaide University program next year to complete her Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) (birth–5 years).

Ms Pignotti seamlessly balances full-time work with study through a blended learning format that combines on-campus tutorials with online flexibility, and is looking forward to continuing this at Adelaide University.

After a successful career in events management in Adelaide,

Ms Pignotti made the move back home to the Limestone Coast during COVID and decided to pursue a more community-focused role.

Now working as an executive assistant with the Department for Education, she was inspired to study early childhood education to contribute more meaningfully to her sector.

“I love the flexibility,” Ms Pignotti said.

“The online content is released in advance, so I can plan around my work commitments.

“If I know I’ve got a busy week coming up, I can adjust my study schedule – it’s manageable and really supportive.”

Being able to access local facilities has also been key to her success.

“I used the Mount Gambier campus even when I was studying psychology online,’ she said.

“It’s a welcoming space, and being on campus really elevates your success — you get to know your lecturers and connect with other students.”

Ms Pignotti is now an active student leader, meeting fortnightly with campus staff and the Student Association to develop initiatives that enhance engagement and belonging for local students.

She’s also part of the Adelaide University Student Advisory Panel, ensuring regional voices are heard as the new university takes shape.

“I’m excited about what the new Adelaide University means for our community,” she says. “It strengthens opportunities for regional students and helps our campus grow. Studying here has given me a real sense of pride — and purpose,” she said.

The University of South Australia and the University of Adelaide are joining forces to become Australia’s new major university – Adelaide University.

Building on the strengths, legacies and resources of two leading universities, Adelaide University will deliver globally relevant research at scale, innovative, industry-informed teaching and an outstanding student experience.
