SUMMER on Watson is well underway with many successful community events being held and planned for the coming months, including a New Years Eve event.

The City of Mount Gambier CBD Activation is a trial concept and began in late November and will continue through until late January.

Mayor Lynette Martin said the trial is a “work in progress” and council officers are monitoring the progress closely.

She said while it has been a slow start, there will be more events held further into the summer season.

“It is fortunate to know that following the cancellation of the New Years Eve event, that council is supporting the development of a family friendly New Years Eve celebration as part of Summer on Watson,” she said.

Councillor Josh Lynagh said it was good to see community requests for events and being directed to the space, like Jason Moore’s ride from Goolwa to Mount Gambier/Berrin to raise money for mental health this month, which will end at the Cave Gardens/Thugi.

A Triple J Party for Triple J’s Hottest 100 and Sing along with Jimmy, a children’s music entertainment show are amongst the other events in the Summer on Watson program of activations for the CBD.

Ms Martin extended thanks to council staff for their work putting together Summer on Watson and said that “it is a lot of work,” especially given the short lead in time for the activation.
