Three-peat for father and daughter

THE Mount Gambier District Indoor Bowls Association held its fourth association championship, recently, with the Faith Jewellers/David and Jane Peacock Mixed Pairs event.

A strong field of of 29 entries competed for the 2023 title.

The father and daughter pair from Wandilo Water Rats – Tony Bowditch as skipper and Nicola Bowditch as lead – met the in-form combination of skipper Perria Davis and lead Carmel McQuade, from Glenburnie and Saints in the first semi-final, with the former team winning six shots to five.

In the second semi-final the mother and son combination from Post-Tel, Fiona Pearson, skippering and Zac Pearson leading, defeated the Commercial Club and Blue Lake Bowlers pair of Coehen Keppels and Julie McPhail 11-3.

Pearson and Bowditch met in the final, with both teams playing exceptionally well and both deserved to make the big game.

Pearson’s team had a lead of 4-1 after the third end, but the Bowditch team slowly worked its way back into the game, with the scores level on the last end to have the title decided on an extra end. Bowditch played the shot bowl out of the head, which the Pearson’s were holding, to claim victory and take out the Mixed Pairs Championship 6-5 for the third year in a row.

The consolation semi-finals were contested between Daniel Langdon from Wandilo Water Rats and Serena Bourn from Glenburnie who defeated Bronwyn Hill and Robert Freemantle from Blue Lake Bowlers 9-2.

The second semi-final saw the Blue Lake Bowlers team of Emma Freemantle and Thomas Butler defeat Tru Franklin and Les James from RSL and District 9-4.

The combined team of Langdon and Bourn prevailed to win 9-2.
