Robe claims win in Mount Gambier

SOCIAL bowls returned to the Robe Bowling Club on Thursday with a round of 2-4-2 played.

Rob Lawrie and Dean Nankivell claimed the win with a score of 54+20.

Pat Lynch and Jim Gray were runners-up on a count-back on 54+19, while Paul Truelove and Stephen Kennett rounded out the top three with 51 points.

Robbie Dahler and Barry Bennett were winners in the raffle.

In the Friday Pennant, the Division 2 and Division 3 women claimed resounding wins on their home greens.

Robe’s Division 2 side claimed a 78/8 – 31/0 win over Port MacDonnell.

Judy Phillips, Pam Robinson, Helen Dawson and Judy Bermingham defeated Lynette Vanderley’s team 33-19.

In the other rink, Robbie Dahler, Ann Moore, Barbara Brown and Tracey Gray claimed a 45-12 win over Marilyn Sutton’s team.

In Division 3, Robe claimed a 62/8 – 34-0 win over Mount Gambier RSL.

Doug Baker, Maria Cooper, Bronwyn Matthews and Valma Jennings teamed up to defeat Sharon Bruhn’s team 26-22, while Rob Lawrie, Lorraine Dening, Kerry Pedlar and Helen Lynch proved too good for Shirley McIntyre’s team with the final score 36-12.

The year ended in style for the Division 3 side which doesn’t take to the greens again until February 3.

In the Open Pennant, the Division 1 and 2 sides travelled to Mount Gambier RSL on Saturday.

Despite rain causing the contests to finish early, both reams returned home off the back of solid victories.

In Division 1, Robe claimed a 72/10 – 52/2 win over Mount Gambier RSL Blue.

Paul Truelove, Dean Woodward, Errol Jennings and Dean Burgoyne overcame Gary Feast’s team to claim a 19-16 win in a close contest.

In other rinks, Pat Lynch, David Robinson, Harold Manton and Steve Farrell were defeated by Ron Ploenges’ team, while Josh Waddell, Peter Gregory, Peter Roachock and Glenn Wright had a big win over Rex Hein’s team with the final score 8-25.

In Division 2, Robe claimed a 66/10 – 50/2 win.

Rob Lawrie, Barry Bennett, Mark Murphy and Ali Douglas comfortably defeated Graeme Smith’s team, while Vic Dawson, Bill Cook, Gordon Brown and Deane Nankivell suffered a defeat to John Spehr’s by five shots.

In the other rink, Doug Baker, Peter deLaine, Jo Sykes and Ken Smith claimed a 20-17 win over Ian Macintosh’s team.

On Friday, the Division 2 women will travel to Beachport, in Saturday’s Open Pennant, Division 1 and 2 will play at home for the last round before the Christmas break.

The Robe Bowling Club Men’s Singles Championship will be held on January 7 and 8.
