Hunt leads the way

THE third round of the Hudson Plumbing Trophy was played in a stableford round last week at the Mount Gambier Golf Club, where players faced mixed conditions.

The first groups off the first and 10th holes encountered icy fairways and greens, before the sunny skies returned the course to normal conditions for golf.

The top prizes were claimed by Division 2 players as Rose Hunt put in a strong performance to claim first place.

Hunt had an impressive start with a four-pointer on the first hole and finished the first nine with 18 points.

She added another 19 points in the back nine to take her total to 37 points to claim the grand prize.

Amongst the 19 points on the back nine, was a four-pointer on the 15th hole.

Lois Harvey continued her good form and played to her handicap to finish runner-up with 36 points.

Division 1’s Carol Davis and Di Norman were close behind as Davis played very steady golf, which included a birdie on the eighth hole on the way to 36 points.

Norman was runner-up just one shot behind Davis with points, Norman’s round was highlighted with three consecutive pars on the front nine.

The second shot on the 10th hole was won by Davis, Betty McKechnie and Jane Lamont, while Davis also claimed the pro-shot on the eighth hole.

The ball rundown winners were Di O’Donnell with 35 points, Maureen Sims, Carol Smith, Jan Shanahan, Heather Chapman and Helen Gregory with 32 points and Libby Altschwager with 31.

There were six women who took part in a stableford round on Saturday morning on a heavy course due to overnight rain.

Kathy Ewer held her game together to claim the win with 31 points, ahead of Helen Gregory, who was a close runner-up with 30 points.

The ball rundown winners were Sharran Waters, Yvonne Shirley and Lyndal McInerney with 29 points.

There will also be five women from the Mount Gambier Golf Club who will compete in the SA Ladies Country Golf Week at Murray bridge and Victor Harbor.
