IN the red corner we have Katherine Davies with head coach Peter Malinauskas.

In the blue corner we have Troy Bell, whoops… no we don’t – it’s Ben Hood.

Nearly forgot blue corner coach, Steven Marshall dropped Troy bell when the charges were laid against him following an investigation by the Independent Commission Against Corruption.

While bashed and bruised, Mr Bell fought back at the last championship round and held the coveted title of Member for Mount Gambier.

Sure, there’s a few other colours fighting it out, but the reality is that they will struggle to qualify for the main event but play a role in bolstering final championship points for the winner.

Probably enough of the boxing analogies but State election coming up in March next year appears to be getting more and more interesting each day.

Incumbent Troy Bell may well be the king maker in the washup.

Premier Steven Marshall has vowed not to strike any deals with independents to form government, but Opposition Leader Peter Malinauskas has left the door open.

Given the historic voting pattern in Mount Gambier, independent Troy Bell stands a good chance of being re-elected courtesy of Labor preferences but that’s not Labor’s end game – it’s to secure government.

The current Liberal Government is hanging onto power with the support of independents – it does not have a majority in parliament – some would say it’s doubtful that it will after the next election either.

Labor knows that to take government it may need to enlist support from independent Troy Bell hence the big ticket promises for Mount Gambier starting to flow our way.

It would be very hard for Troy Bell to reject Labor if it has made pledges seen favourably by our community and the Liberals haven’t.
