Pin placements favourable for good scores

A WELL-SET course with accessible pin placements was enjoyed by 32 women at the Mount Gambier Golf Club for a par round.

The weather conditions were also favourable for good scoring and Hope Bliss made the most of that with the A Grade win after returning a score of 3-up.

Bliss registered 1-up on the front nine and 2-up on the difficult back nine, for seven wins and three wipes.

B Grade went to Kate McCormick with 1-up, consisting of 2-up on the front and 1-down on the back.

Maureen Sims claimed C Grade with 1-down, consisting of 2-down on the front and 1-up on the back.

She played the back nine well for five wins.

Seven women collected a ball each in the ball run-down, with Karen Forster, Denise Harvey, Bev Pedlar, Maxine McGregor, Faye Mainwaring, Helen McIntyre and Kerry Pedlar all claiming the honours.

Speciality prizes went to Kerry Pedlar, who just returned to the game after three months away, awarded three balls for the pro shot on the eighth hole.

The second shot for A Grade on the sixth hole went to captain Faye Mainwaring, who landed her shot 11cm short of the pin.

The second shot for B Grade went to Betty McKechnie and in C Grade, Vicki Clark.

Meanwhile on Saturday 21 women competed in a stableford event.

Playing in windy conditions and with fast greens, Leanne Hunt recorded 36 points to claim the win.

She had 17 points on the front nine and 19 on the back, with six wins on her card.

Kerry Pedlar came in second after registering 34 points, 18 on the front and 16 on the back.

She had no wipeouts and a good shot to within 84cm of the pin on the 16th hole, finishing with a birdie and three points

Yvonne Shirley finished third after a count-back having 19 points on the front and 15 on the difficult back nine.
