Harvey on target

ON a cold but clear day a large field of 35 women competed in the fourth round of the Hudson Plumbing stableford at the Mount Gambier Golf Club.

There were good scores recorded, with Denise Harvey heading the leader board.

Playing off a 22 handicap, Harvey had a great day to register 39 points, with 19 on the front nine and 20 on the back, including six three-pointers and scored on every hole.

Runner-up on a count-back was the ever-consistent Jan Shanahan who has been a regular place- getter over the last few months.

She compiled 37 points, with 16 on the front and 21 on the back.

She posted four pars and had no wipe-outs for the day.

A relatively newcomer Jill Johnson claimed third place on a count-back) with 37 points.

It included 20 points on the front nine and 17 on the difficult back nine.

Her score was helped along with a fine shot onto the par 3 16th hole, which landed within 46cm of the hole, with a subsequent birdie and five points.

Eight women featured in the ball run-down ranging from 36 points to 32 points.

Speciality prizes went to Heather Barry for the pro shot on the eighth hole, landing 82cm from the cup for a birdie and three balls.

The second shot on the first hole was won by A Grade’s Andrea Pegler, B Grade’s Janina Morrison and C Grade’s newcomer Helen Heaver.

On Saturday springlike weather finally came to the Mount Gambier Golf Course and 15 women enjoyed the pleasant conditions.

The course was in a great state, with the greens running fast but true.

Lyndal McInerney played the course well and returned a score of 3-up.

McInerney had a solid back nine with five wins and two wipes equating to 3-up.

In second place with a score of 2-up was Helen McIntyre.

McIntyre also conquered the long back nine finishing with 3-up added to a 1-down on the front nine and registering a birdie on the 12th hole.

Yvonne Shirley claimed third place on a count-back, registered 2-up also.

Shirley enjoyed a consistent back nine carding eight squares and one win together with 1-up on the front nine.
