Autocross action returns to the park

THE third round of the 2021 South Eastern Automobile Club Super Series is set to run on Sunday at SEAC Park.

Track condition at the Megaw Road sports complex is looking good, even though the area has had considerable rain over the past few weeks.

A working bee last weekend did some manicuring of the racing surface, removing some tree limbs and debris from recent windy days and trimming the grass in the pit area in readiness for the action this Sunday.

A good field have made entry already with the usual suspects at the front end of the points scored over the first two rounds all looking to increase their tally for the series.

Jamie Pohlner will be still on a high after his recent win in the State Rally Series a couple of weeks ago and should continue to be the one to beat if he brings his “A” game.

Dale Cagney, Simon Feil, Nick Cagney will all be out to get the top points on offer and each of these four-wheel drive campaigners are more than capable on any given day of getting the chocolates.

Specials may be the dark horse if the track stays wet with Damien Brand’s CanAm well suited to the sloppy conditions, as is John Whitehead’s buggy.

The two-wheel drive camp has several to pick from for the class win.

Last season’s two-wheel drive champion Geoff Wilson has got the points on the board from the first two rounds and has indicated keenness to get back and have a skid.

Ken Moore is capable of spoiling the party, as is Damien Wilson, but a very slippery track may hinder the rear-wheel drives trying to chase Wilson Snr down in his front-wheel drive Pug.

Mark Jennings and Gary Brown will duel it out all day for bragging rights in the Falcon that they have shared in the previous rounds.

Commodore pilot Liam Lewis will put on a show well worth watching as he pushes his car sideways around the excellent layout at SEAC Park.

Mick and Connor Cooper will continue the family challenge with Connor having a slight edge on the old man so far.

Action gets under way Sunday at 9.15am after director Curtis Boyd completes the driver briefing.

Spectators are welcome to view the Day’s action either from the roadside in the comfort of their cars, or from the viewing mounds in the park area.

As with all public activities, COVID compliance is required under current guidelines.

Sign-in at site is required.

Come prepared for the day, as there may not be any catering at the park.
