Cougars up the ante

Men: Cougars 65 (T. de Wit 39, N. Fisher 9) d Saints 53 (A. Schultz 15, C. Schultz 12).

The contest between the Cougars and Saints would determine second position on the South East Coast basketball ladder with both teams tied prior to the match.

Once again for the Cougars it was the Toby de Wit show as he led his team with 39 points to the win.

De Wit’s teammates continually worked to create opportunities for their star player who took his chances and made the Saints pay.

The Schultz brothers worked hard for their side and managed to keep the game tight up to half time, a big third quarter by the Cougars stretched the lead to double figures and put the game out of reach of Saints.

Women: Cougars 68 (S. Ritter 22, M. Horrigan 17) d Bulldogs/Roos 50 (E. Bouchier 17, S. Adams 12).

Cougars reasserted themselves with a comfortable win over Bulldog/Roos.

Cougars had four players score in double figures led by Sarah Ritter with 22.

Bulldogs/Roos worked hard but with only five players were undermanned and ran out of steam.

Ellie Bouchier and Siobhan Adams continue to impress for the young Bulldog/Roos side.

Cougars broke out to an early double-figure lead, which Bulldogs/Roos managed to trim back to three points in the second quarter.

However, Cougars found another level using their size and depth to put the game out reach.
