Strong field for popular event

GOLFERS from 12 different clubs across the Limestone Coast and Western Victoria converged on the Blue Lake Golf Club for its annual Women’s Open Day.

The popularity of the event was evident, with Noel Barr Toyota the major sponsor, along with She’s Apples, Cafe Belgiorno, Herbert Winery, Jip Jip Wines, Digorgio Wines, Pick Avenue Bakery, Woolworths and life member Rhonda Ferguson.

The course was picture-perfect for the two-person ambrose competition and the 78 registered players formed 39 teams, with the aim of the day to enjoy the camaraderie, but the competition was still evident, as the results suggested.

For the best gross score, the team of hamilton’s Robyn Holcombe/Jo Forsyth finished with 78 to claim the honours, just ahead of Millicent’s Mardie Sunderland/Helen Chilton with 79.

Lucindale’s Leanne Graetz/Karen Stone claimed the nett honours with a score of 68.2/4, ahead of Mount Gambier Golf Club’s Bernie Jennings/Karen Forster 70.3/4, on a count-back from Penola’s Deb Redman/Penny Young.

Nearest to pin on the second hole went to Rose Tomlinson and on the 14th to Faye Mainwaring.

Robyn Walters claimed the pro shot on the fifth hole.

The least putts went to Dian Chalmers/Colleen Maintz with 26, while the most putts went to Helen Hales/Kay Walker with 34.

Meanwhile Josie Ashby claimed the monthly medal last week, while the Collins court Butcher Captains Trophy was played in conjunction with the stroke competition.

Ashby claimed the win for Division 1 with a total of 93/20/73, from Sue Agars (99/22/77).

Division 2 went to Dianne Allen (117/39/78) on a count-back from Fay Price and Karen Panagopolous.

Nearest to pin second shot went to Ashby, adding further to her prizes with 29 putts in the least putts competition.

Lesley McPherson won Division 2’s nearest to the pin.

The Division 2 putting was won by Panagopolous with 29 putts, along with the pro-shot.
