AFTER its cancellation in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Belgiornos Cafe Handicap championships returned to the Blue lake Golf Club last week.
The semi-finals were played in trying weather conditions, with the women competing against gusty wind and heavy showers, but the results were a close affair.
The first semi-final in Division 1 was an epic match between Cherryl Hill and Bev Pascoe, with Hill giving Pascoe a seven-stroke advantage.
The match went to the 18th hole, with Pascoe winning 2-up.
The second semi-final between Geraldine Scott and Lynda Nannings was a sea-saw affair on the front nine, with Scott able to dig deep and win 4/2.
Scott had to relinquish four strokes to Nannings.
The current holder of the Division 2 Title Lyn Annand placed straight into the final after bye’s in the quarter’s and semis and will meet new-comer to championships Karen Panagopolous.
The semi-final between Trudy Herbert and Panagopolous proved to be of a high standard, Panagopolous winning 1-up on the18th.

A stableford competition was held for those not playing in championships.
Division 1 winner was Dianne Perryman on a count-back from Fiona Punton, both carding 30 points, followed by Helen Stratford on 29, also on a count-back from Ronda Edwards and Helen Myers.
Stratford was nearest to pin second shot winner.
Division 2 winner went to veteran Fay Price with 33 points, several shots away from Carol Melhuish on 25 on a count-back from Lynette Hirth.
Beryl Mahoney was nearest to pin second shot on the uphill par 3 second hole.
The monthly medal and third round of the Collins Court Butcher Ccaptains trophy will be played on April 28.
