THE Lower South East Veteran Golfers Association held its 2021 getaway in the Barossa Valley from Sunday, April 11 to Friday, April 16 with 62 people consisting of 46 golfers (37 men and nine women), plus 16 non golfers participating in the week.
South East golf clubs represented were Millicent, Mount Gambier, Blue Lake, Robe, Kingston, Naracoorte, Lucindale and Beachport.
The majority of the group were based in Nuriootpa at the Vine Inn Hotel, while some stayed in their caravans at Nuriootpa and Tanunda Caravan Parks.
Golfers played at Barossa Valley Golf Club on Monday and Wednesday, Sandy Creek Golf Club on Tuesday and Tanunda Pines Golf Club on Thursday.
A stableford competition was played on each of the four days,while the non-golfers enjoyed exploring the Barossa Valley area.
The event was tightly contested, with Mount Gambier’s David Douglas the overall winner after the four days of golf with 136 points, ahead of Robe’s Ian Regnier with 134 and Millicent’s Brian Duldig with 132.
Douglas was also part of the winning team.

Nearest to pin winner on the sixth hole was Bob Childs.
Millicent’s Doug Robbins won the Ross Orchard Trophy – for the worst score of the day.
Women – Mardi Sunderland – Millicent 31 points, Wendy Pitt – Kingston 30 points.
Nearest to pin on the 15th hole went to Kingston’s Jan Chalmers after no one hit the green.
Mount Gambier’s Hope Bliss had an eagle on the par 5, first hole, playing her third shot from the bunker into the hole.
Tuesday at Sandy Creek Golf Club
Men – Brian Thomson – Millicent 35 points, on a count-back from Brenton Pitt – Kingston, 35 points.

Women – Winner – Mardi Sunderland – Millicent 121 points – equal runners-up – Marie Douglas – Mount Gambier and Rosie Wright – Kingston – 118 points.
The teams event winners were David Douglas – Mount Gambier, Bob Childs – Millicent, Neil Quirk – Mount Gambier and Owen Merrett – Millicent – 483 points.
Runners-up were John Shirley, Mike Atwell, Kym Sutherland – all Mount Gambier and David Seymour – Millicent with 467 points.
