Results go down to the wire

SOUTHERN Ports Tennis turned it on Saturday, with two matches ending in 12 sets, with the results going down to games.

The match of the day saw Francis/Naracoorte needing a win to remain with any hope of contesting the grand final.

The higher-ranked Lucindale Cockatoos looked to cement their Division 1 spot which set the stage for an epic contest.

Frances/Naracoorte claimed the win but by just three games.

The tennis was evenly matched with the results going down to the last doubles game.

In another competitive contest, Lucindale Koals claimed the win over Kingston by 12 games.

Unfortunately for Kingston the day did not start well, with William Edwards injuring an ankle in the warm up.

The Koalas then started well, with four of the six mixed doubles wins, plus the same result for the singles.

Kingston rebounded in the women’s singles to tie the contest at nine-sets heading into the doubles.

The Koalas won all 3 men’s doubles and Kingston won all 3 women’s to tie at 12 sets all and the Koalas winning on games.

Meanwhile Robe again flexed its muscles, with a 20-4 win over Millicent/Beachport.

Egan and Jed Regnier, Hamish Robertson, Allan Hall, Andrew Brown, Leanne Cameron, Lisa Hall and Barb Hensel won all three games for the victors.

Round 17 looks to be a possible preview of the Division 1 grand final when the Lucindale Cockatoos travel to Robe to take on the power house team.

The remaining matches are all important as teams fight for the last three positions.

The Koalas need to beat the Wombats, while the Roos will have to ride out this week having the bye but they possibly could drop out of the top six.

Millicent/Beachport needs to beat the Frances/Naracoorte team who also need to win to keep that top division in sight, while Naracoorte needs to beat Kingston to keep the top six in sight.
