Mount Gambier too strong in annual tournament

SUCCESSFUL DAY: Mount Gambier and District Tennis Association claimed the Baker and Ey Shields at Lucindale on Sunday.

MOUNT Gambier and District Tennis Association was well represented at the annual Baker and Ey Shield competitions on Sunday, returning home with both honours.

The annual event was held in sunny conditions at the Lucindale Country Club, with Mount Gambier going head-to-head with the Southern Ports Tennis Association.

The day featured some entertaining contests, particularly in the Ey Shield where many matches went into the tie-break, such as Robe’s Max Robertson who played tie-breaks in all four of his matches.

Overall the Ey Shield was won by MGDTA 284 games over SPTA on 206 games.

The Baker Shield also saw some high level tennis.

However, Mount Gambier again proved too strong winning 294 games to 195.
