SATURDAY night’s Mount Gambier and District baseball game saw home team South Indians light up the score-board in the bottom of the first, as Bruce Morale hit safely to left field and was batted in by Dean Hamilton but it was not enough to stop the Tigers running rampant to claim a strong victory.
Tigers answered back in their next at bat when Tyler Horrigan cracked a ball to right-field and was batted in by Levi Morton.
In the top of the third inning they added two more runs.
Brayden Morton hit safely and Hayden Jones’ infield hit created an error which pushed Morton home.
Jones ultimately scored on another infield error.
South, again through Morale, added another in the even inning when he slammed a ball out to left-field and was again batted in by Hamilton.
However, that was the end of the scoring for South but the Tigers kept coming up with hits and runs.
In the fifth inning Garth Ransom found himself safe at first base on another error and was batted in by Garrett Ha.
Tigers added two more in the seventh after Matthew Thompson cracked a hit to right-field and Karl Ransom followed up by beating out an infield throw.
They were both batted in by Jacob English’s long hit to deep left-field.
Their final run came in the eighth inning when Garth Ransom hit safely and crossed the home plate on Ha’s long drive to centre-field to give Tigers a 7-2 victory.
In the early game, Central set up a big win early in the fixture at Millicent.
The visitors opened their scoring in the first inning, as lead-off batter Jordan Aston hit safely to centre-field and was brought home on Alex Ridding’s two-bagger, also to centre-field.
Ridding then scored on a wild throw, while Dylan Chuck was hit by the pitcher and Dylan Gull hit into an infield error.
Lauchie Tilley gave centre-field another workout and his hit batted in Chuck then the fourth run for the dig was scored when Gull crossed on a wild pitch.
The Bandits opened their account in the bottom of the third as Ellis Cushion and Jordan Johnson both drew walks.
Craig Chittleborough drilled a hit to left-field which scored both runners.
In the bottom of the fourth, Central’s Colby Muller crunched a safe-hit to left-field and scored on Josh Chuck’s hit which created an infield error.
The Bandits added two more to their score-line in the fifth inning from a series of errors by the Magpies fielders.
Jack Hateley picked a walk and Anthony Mutton’s Texas-leaguer to centre field saw him safe at first.
Hateley scored on a wild throw from the infield and Mutton added one more on a passed ball.
In the top of the sixth Alex Ridding doubled to the outfield and was batted in by Dylan Chuck.
Two more runs were added in the Magpies’ seventh at bat.
Lauchie Tilley crunched a ball to centre-field and Colby Mulled picked a base-on-ball.
They were both batted in by Alex Ridding when he picked up his fourth safe-hit of the game.
Millicent added its final run of the game in the even inning.
Darcy Pink singled and scored on Tim Niewenhuiizen’s long hit into centre-field.
Central closed out the game in the top of the ninth, adding an additional three runs, all unearned.
With two out Aston hit into an infield error, Alex Ridding hit safely for the fifth time and Dylan Chuck clobbered a two-bagger to left-field which scored Aston.
Gull then came up with another hit to left-field which both Ridding and Chuck used to cross the plate.
