A MOUNT Gambier woman has received a suspended prison sentence after pleading guilty to failing to comply with a COVID-19 direction.
Patricia Anne Kohn appeared in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court today accused of hiding in a truck to re-enter South Australia and evade border patrols after spending several weeks in Victoria.
Police believed the offence took place sometime on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, arresting the 65-year-old Mount Gambier woman after receiving a report she had re-entered the state.
Magistrate Maria Panagiotidis convicted Kohn of the offence earlier today, handing down an 18-day prison sentence that was suspended upon the defendant entering a nine-month good behaviour bond.
She was also ordered to pay $601 in court costs and will enter a 14-day isolation period at a Mount Gambier address from today.
Enquiries continue regarding the identity of the driver, and if they were aware the woman was hiding in the truck.
Any similar incidents should be reported to police immediately via the Police Assistance Line of 131 444.
