No bail progress for accused ‘spitter’

DISCUSSIONS surrounding whether a woman who spat on a pregnant nurse at Mount Gambier Hospital will be released on home detention bail are ongoing.

Veronica Jane Hay, 52, appeared in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court yesterday facing a charge of assaulting a hospital worker.

It is alleged on July 19 at around 9.30am, Hay verbally abused and spat in tge face a uniformed nurse who was 26-weeks pregnant.

Yesterday, Hay’s defence counsel said a bail inquiry report ordered last week was unfavorable as an electronic monitoring evaluation at the requested address could not be carried out.

Magistrate Maria Panagiotidis re-ordered the reports, but made it clear to defence counsel it did not necessarily mean his client would be released on bail at the next hearing.

Hay was remanded in custody and will appear in court on August 4.
