BreastScreen SA unit to service Limestone Coast

DEVOTED TO THE HEALTH OF WOMEN: Radiographer Cecelia is part of the team at the Breastscreen van currently in Millicent.

BREASTSCREEN SA’s mobile screening unit has started its visit to Millicent to provide free screening mammograms for around 1265 local women.

The unit is located at the War Memorial Civic and Arts Centre car park.

Breast screening had started in early March, but was suspended for three months across South Australia on account of concerns related to the COVID-19 virus.

Although screening has resumed, there are still some COVID-19 protocols in place.

Callers to the van are asked to park their vehicles and then phone ahead.

Social distancing measures are also enforced.

The van is staffed by two radiographers and an administrative officer.

Radiographer Cecelia has worked in the medical field for the past 24 years.

She urged women to be screened for breast cancer.

“For appointments please phone 132 050 and a doctor’s referral is not required,” Cecelia said.

Large scale testing was last undertaken in Millicent in 2018.

After two months in Millicent, the van will make it’s the first-ever visit to Kingston.
