Police investigation brings Mount Gambier main corner to standstill

A LARGE police presence at Mount Gambier’s main corner yesterday morning halted peak hour traffic as officers conducted follow-up enquiries into a crash, which occurred earlier this year.

Traffic was brought to a halt at the Commercial Street and Bay Road intersection at around 8am and pedestrians were told to wait as a police car travelled through a red light with its lights flashing.

Shortly after, several other officers who were watching on from adjacent locations dispersed from the scene.

While the nature of the police operation and heavy presence sparked speculation on social media, Limestone Coast Police operations manager Inspector Campbell Hill said there was no cause for community concern.

“Police were on the scene to conduct enquiries in relation to a crash which occurred at the location on April 27,” he said.
